World Downs Syndrome Day 2024

Today, First Steps will be observing World Downs Syndrome Day. This is an annual event that has been part of the United Nations calendar since 2012.

This years theme is “Ending the Stereotypes” so our activities will be focussing on how we support the children to be proud of who they are, embrace diversity and celebrate difference so as to deconstruct stereotypes before they begin.

We joined the Lots Of Socks campaign so all children and staff were invited to wear odd, colourful or fabulously eye catching socks for the day. Our socks will be a springboard for discussion about similarities and differences.

More information about World Downs Syndrome Day can be found at:

We are always happy to talk about how we celebrate diversity at First Steps, so if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. 🙂

What Our Parents Say

Since my children started, they’ve had the best experience and we are so grateful to the whole team.

From the start to the end, my son has been cared for, loved and supported by all the wonderful humans at First Steps.

It is evident that the emotional wellbeing of each child is a priority.

Thank you for all your support, kindness and love that you have shown both my children.
