We are very proud to introduce to you our excellent team of highly qualified and respected staff at First Steps Nursery in Porthleven. All staff members have a current CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) and go through a rigorous process of checks prior to employment. Each member of our team is very passionate about their job role and we feel that First Steps’s success is largely due to this strong, professional and caring team.

Julie Elsworth First Steps

Julie Elsworth

My name is Julie Elsworth and I hold a Diploma Level 3 in Early Years, Level 3 in Playwork, D32/33 Assessor and 7307 in Teaching. I have 23 years experience of working in childcare in the capacity of supervisor for 8 years and then as private co-owner of First Steps Nursery in 1997. I am dedicated to supporting the First Steps Team in providing high quality care and education by nurturing learning and development to ensure that all children have fun and are happy and are provided with the best possible start in life that they deserve.

Elaine Williams

My name Is Elaine Williams and my childcare career path commenced in 1990 where I supervised in a local pre-school and I became private co- owner of First Steps Nursery in 1997. I hold a Level 4 in Management, Diploma Level 3 in Early Years, Level in Playwork, D32/33 Assessor and 7307 in Teaching. I value the importance of listening and working together in partnership with parents to ensure the overall well being of every child within our care is safe and secure.

Dawn

Dawn Page

My name is Dawn Page and I am the manager of First Steps Nursery Porthleven and I am the Early Years Advisor for our Newquay and Truro settings. I have over 25 years experience of working with children aged 0-13 years in various settings and first qualified in 1976 with an NNEB. I now hold a First Class BA Honours Professional Practice in Early Years. I joined First Steps in 2006 when the Children Centre was first established and I supervise in the Dolphin Room. I inspire to teach and be supportive to parents and practitioners in understanding all areas of child development and passionate in valuing children as unique individuals so that they may become confident capable learners.

Carol

Carol Jewell

My name is Carol Jewell and I have 8 years of experience working in childcare and as a teaching assistant in primary schools. I hold an NVQ Level 2 qualification in both Early Years and as a Teaching Assistant. I am a nursery assistant in the Dolphin Room and an ardent outdoors sports person and I use these skills to provide exercise that is fun and enjoyable for all children to partake in to encourage healthy living.

Chloe

Chloe Pawlyn

My name is Chloe Pawlyn and I joined First Steps as a student . Having completed my training in July 2012 I now hold a Cache Diploma Level three in Early Years and work as a nursery assistant in the Starfish Room. My hobby is art and creating using various materials and this interest helps me to encourage babies and young children to explore and investigate different media like paint, jelly and gloop that supports their sensory development.

Gareth

Gareth Bull

My name is Gareth Bull and I have four years experience in working with children aged 2 -12 years. I am qualified to NVQ Level Four in Children’s Care Learning and Development. I am the Play leader of the Blues Club and support the Dolphin Room Team as a nursery assistant. My passion is comics, super heroes and drawing and this provides the opportunity to engage children in imaginative role play and provide older children the opportunity to partake in expressive art.

Helen Philips

My name is Helen Philips and I have a Cache level three qualification in Early years and Education. I have five children and seven years experience in childcare and joined the First Steps team in 2009. I co- supervise in the Starfish Room and adore working with babies and young children in providing them with lots of love, cuddles and attention so that they feel safe and secure.

Melanie

Melanie Bull

My name is Melanie Bull and I have worked in childcare for 10 years and am qualified to NVQ Level four in Children’s Care Learning and Development. I am co-deputy at First Steps and supervise in the Dolphin Room. I am an avid reader and especially enjoy bringing stories to life with the children through usage of props and role-play where children become fully engrossed in using their imaginations through active learning.

Caroline Taylor

My name is Caroline Taylor and I have worked in childcare for 20 years and joined the First Steps team in 2007. I am qualified to Cache level three in Children’s Care learning and development. I am co-deputy at First Steps and supervise in the Dolphin Room. I play several instruments and love to encourage children to explore different sounds to develop listening skills and support singing activities so that they become confident in using their voices that lays the foundations for phonic awareness.

Jo Wicks

My name is Jo Wicks and I started my child care career as a mature student at First Steps in 2007. I am supervisor of the Starfish room and qualified to Cache level three in Children’s Care learning and Development. I am enthusisastic in nuturing young children’s social and emotional development and encouragement of exploration and experimentation both indoors and outdoors to support learning.

Rachael Cartwright

My name is Rachael Cartwright and I have a NVQ level 3 qualification in Early Years and Education and have four years experience working with children aged 2-5 years. I work as a nursery assistant in the Dolphin Room. I enjoy using computers and technology and use this interest to support children’s understanding of ICT and how things work.

Tracey

Tracey Brigdale

My name is Tracey Brigdale and after looking after my four children choose a career path working with children and qualified in 2009 and hold a Cache level 2 in Child Care and Education. I work as a play worker in the Blues Club. I love to cook and have introduced cooking activities to the children so that they can experiment using a variety of ingredients and tools and also supports mathematics in a fun way.

Kristina Faulkner

My name is Kristina Faulkner and I started my childcare career as a student at First Steps and achieved a level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education in 2008. I support the Dolphin Room team as a nursery assistant and especially enjoy supporting children’s own imaginary role-play activities by introducing new words to develop language skills.
