Dragonfly Room – Update
Welcome to the latest update from the Dragonfly Room at First Steps Cornwall! Our children have been actively participating in a variety of enriching activities that foster creativity, learning, and physical development. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
Literacy Fun
Our literacy sessions continue to spark joy and imagination. One of the children’s favorite activities is storytime role play, where they act out scenes from their favorite books, bringing stories to life and developing their language and communication skills. Alongside this, we’ve introduced creative writing and drawing exercises to encourage early literacy. These activities, combined with fine motor skill tasks like holding pencils and using scissors for cutting out shapes and letters, help children improve their precision and coordination while fostering a love for reading and storytelling.
Sensory Exploration and Art
Sensory play remains a central part of the Dragonfly Room experience. Children have been enjoying hands-on activities such as puzzle-solving and building with blocks, which help them develop problem-solving skills and improve their fine motor abilities. In our art sessions, the children have been experimenting with various materials—creating collages using scissors to cut paper and fabric, and using paint, sponges, and brushes to explore different textures. These activities encourage self-expression while honing their scissor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Outdoor Play Adventures
Outdoor play continues to be a highlight of our day. Our garden space offers the perfect environment for physical activity, helping the children develop both gross and fine motor skills. Whether climbing, running, or participating in outdoor building activities, the children are constantly learning through play. In addition, we’ve added outdoor art projects like painting and nature collages, allowing the children to express their creativity while interacting with the natural world around them.
