our pre-school classroom is for children aged  2 to 4 years and our experienced team of staff ensure that every child is provided with high quality learning experiences to support development and educational progression. Our parents board will keep you fully involved with each weeks planned activities.

The equipment in the pre-school classroom is of an excellent standard and also includes a large castle style climbing frame. The room layout has been designed to support exploration where resources can be easily accessed by all children and encourages them to become independent learners.

There is an emphasis on outdoor play to encourage children to learn about the wider world. We have created a vegetable garden, den making area, nature area and Bob the builders Yard. The nursery also has a large sand pit that children can sit and stand in encouraging large scale play opportunities.

Each child has a key person who is responsible for their developmental progress and will share with you a ‘Learning Journey’ of their time at First Steps. The learning journal includes photographs, observations and your child’s own work. We encourage you to be involved in your child’s learning and invite you to take the journal home and add photographs and comments of their home life. Children can then ‘show and tell’ their journal and this supports social interaction and development of language skills.

Please read our page on the Early Years Foundation Stage for more information about planning and observation at First Steps.
