Oyster Room

Our oysters are our 3-4 year old pre schoolers. Our learning is based on teaching the children to be super independent learners, with some focus on developing their skills needed to embark on their next journey to big school.

At the beginning of each session, staff will spend time chatting to you, and help your child to ‘self-register’ with their own individual name card with photo. Interesting, exciting, creative and sensory activities are planned e.g. cooking, making play dough, painting, collage, coloured water etc. as well as other activities in the outdoor environment. It is just as important for staff and children to have quiet times too, just cuddling and relaxing with a story in the book corner.

Mini Life Skills

Children learn ‘mini life skills’ such as spreading butter on toast and pouring drinks during cafe snack, toilet training and washing hands, which provides opportunities for them to express their growing independence. Spending time with qualified, dedicated and caring staff provides children with opportunities to chat with others and be listened to. Joining in with small group ‘Talk Time’ and ‘Circle Time’ (if they are ready) with singing, stories, puppets and games encourages children’s social interaction.

There is an emphasis on outdoor play to encourage children to learn about the wider world, we have a large garden to the rear of the building encouraging different physical activities this also includes a  den making area, muddy kitchen and a sheltered area along side the building.

Take a peek in the Oyster room

Here, tranquility is paramount, with soothing colors and serene settings encouraging peaceful exploration. Thoughtfully selected activities are on offer, tailored to ignite imaginations and cultivate emerging interests.

What Our Parents Say

Since my children started, they’ve had the best experience and we are so grateful to the whole team.

From the start to the end, my son has been cared for, loved and supported by all the wonderful humans at First Steps.

It is evident that the emotional wellbeing of each child is a priority.

Thank you for all your support, kindness and love that you have shown both my children.
