Kiwis in the garden

Look what we found in the garden – kiwis! We’re using the fallen kiwis to explore and learn more about these cool fruits.

Children learn valuable lessons from growing their own fruit, including:

  1. Responsibility: Taking care of plants teaches children responsibility as they water, weed, and care for their fruit plants.
  2. Patience: Watching the growth process from planting to harvesting instills patience as they wait for the fruits to ripen.
  3. Connection to Nature: Growing fruit fosters a connection to nature, helping children appreciate the environment and the role of plants in our lives.
  4. Nutritional Awareness: Through hands-on experience, children gain awareness of the nutritional benefits of fruits, learning about vitamins and healthy eating.
  5. Life Cycle Understanding: They grasp the concept of the plant life cycle, from seed germination to fruit production, enhancing their understanding of nature.
  6. Sense of Accomplishment: Harvesting and enjoying the fruits of their labor gives children a sense of accomplishment and pride in their gardening efforts.
  7. Environmental Stewardship: Growing their own food instills a sense of responsibility towards the environment, teaching them about sustainable practices.
  8. Creativity: Exploring different uses for the harvested fruit encourages creativity, as children experiment with recipes and artistic activities.
  9. Sharing and Community: Encouraging children to share their harvest promotes a sense of community and generosity as they share the fruits with others.
  10. Lifelong Skills: The skills acquired in growing fruit, from gardening basics to culinary creativity, provide valuable life skills with lasting benefits.

What Our Parents Say

Since my children started, they’ve had the best experience and we are so grateful to the whole team.

From the start to the end, my son has been cared for, loved and supported by all the wonderful humans at First Steps.

It is evident that the emotional wellbeing of each child is a priority.

Thank you for all your support, kindness and love that you have shown both my children.
